I have similar feelings about IG, I was just thinking the last time I was on it that I barely recognize anything in my feed. It's so many ads and suggested follows it's insane. I miss the old days of IG but I think those are long gone

It's such a terrible user experience anymore for so many reasons 😩 I dislike that so many of us are feeling the way we're feeling, but also appreciate knowing I'm not alone. I am thankful for alternate spaces and ways to connect, like Substack!

I deleted the ig app last week, something I've done before for breaks, but this time I don't miss it one bit and have not been tempted to go back. My mind feels so much better, and that's pretty terrifying

Good on you! And thank you for sharing that. I'm very happy to see people making changes that work for them, it's inspiring.

I'm not sure exactly how I'll move forward. I already have some decent boundaries that I stick to some times better than others. The way I feel right now (the cost/benefit balance no longer serving me) is about how I felt when I left Facebook. It's frustrating being essentially run off from places that used to bring me enjoyment. I think I'm going to experiment a bit and see if I can still use IG to my benefit, but I fear the time may be approaching to log off.

Either way my usage is about to change. I'm really tired of not being in control of my experience and having to work so hard to stay connected with the community I'm there for in the first place. It's madness.

It's been a slow unwinding journey for me, too. I think I'll just download the app for a week here or there if I have something bigger to promote and share, but I will not be returning to posting regularly (I haven't been anyway! The scrolling sucks my creativity!)

The scrolling totally saps my creativity! Not to mention it's such a time waster. Every time I log on with purpose I spend a few mins interacting with content I actually want to see and then inevitably end up scrolling through a bunch of stuff that totally negates the original benefit 😩 It's just such a terrible cycle.

All of this! But also, yay Galison puzzles! Their 500 piece puzzles are my favorite - checking out their sale now :-) Thank you!

They are the best quality and have the prettiest artwork! And we're going to need our relaxing hobbies now more than ever, I think.

Oh I love all you have put into this weeks newsletter, I’m feeling like most on platforms. I find substack to be such a great place and have even thought about moving over very slowly with just a monthly review. I want to make sure I have a space to share what books I have received from publishers as well as reviews. I’m not a writer by any means but I love to share. I may need to pick your brain on this. Also Zuppa Toscana is our go to soup and I never thought about making it in the slow cooker! That sounds like a game changer.

I am always pleased to find another solid slow cooker recipe! You should definitely give it a whirl! And thank you, it really does help to know I'm not the only one with complicated feelings on this issue.

I think now is a great time to checkout new platforms. It seems a lot of people are. And I think starting a Substack is a great idea if you're interested! You obviously enjoy writing reviews and talking about books and I find Substack is, in some ways, actually a more welcome platform for this at this time. I'm really glad I decided to start writing here. And I'm happy to chat about my experience!
