I am so very excited about the new book by Sangu Mandanna, I loved her first one. And I listened to the Book Club for Troublesome Women, and that is the kind of book club I would join. I enjoyed spending my time with these women!
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches was such a treat! I've been looking forward to Mandanna's next book for way too long! I think the pub date got pushed out considerably. If I recall correctly I think it may have originally been slated for a spring 2024 release?!
I’m reading an ARC of These Summer Storms right now (about 100 pages to go), and it’s so good—even though I usually find rich people fiction a little dull. The ennui! Save me.
What’s really striking is how much Sarah MacLean’s writing has leveled up. Her historicals were always fun, fizzy romps, but this is something else—sharply observed, emotionally precise. A real evolution.
This is great to hear! Stories about rich people tend to really work for me or they really don't and it's somewhat unpredictable. And I don't know that I've ever actually read any MacLean... historical romance isn't a typical genre for me. I do love when an author branches out though, often means something good!
Agree with you about Ballad... And I didn't love The Book Club for Troublesome Women but I appreciated it. I have Finding Grace but I've read some very polarizing reviews...
I haven't seen much of anything about Finding Grace. Maybe I should just dive in blind if it's getting mixed reviews. Sometimes it's better for me not to know much when that's the case.
Okay, that salad looks incredible! I'm also reading Girl on Girl and I can't help but be angry about the background of our formative years. Added to my list: I Want This Place to Burn and that Mailman memoir sounds so good!
While I was listening to Girl on Girl I wished I had a physical copy to mark up. It all resonated with me so much. I may have to pick up a copy and go back through some of it!
I could talk for ages about lifelong learning, it's so fascinating. I work in edtech and this is a huge topic. Part of it is definitely about the casual learning like in The Cut article but also things like upskilling, allowing people to earn microcredentials instead of full degrees, upskilling, making different types of learning accessible to non-traditional learners. It's interesting how the way education works used to be dictated to us and now it's definitely the reverse: institutions are taking their cues from would-be learners and creating different pathways. Helps me feel hopeful!
Haha I’m glad publishing is slowing down too! I loved Finding Grace and if you’re a thriller reader I think Night Watcher is going to be big! I read three chapter on my kindle and was too scared to continue 😂 maybe I should have read it in the daylight. I need to add Girl on Girl to my list it sounds up my alley! I’m currently reading The Pretender and thoroughly enjoying it. The cover is a little much but the story is nothing what I was expecting and I find myself laughing though you wouldn’t think it’s a humorous book based on the subject.

Well, I guess good things are worth waiting for? And I will do what I always do…devour it, and then have to wait soooooo long for the next one.
Haha... relatable!

I often end up doing that with audiobooks!

Iiiiinteresting! It definitely feels like education needs to evolve to better meet present needs. I like to hear that some things are changing!
I can't help but compare The Custom of The Country and Summer too ☺️ so glad you're reading along!
Enjoyed Finding Grace! Planning to listen to Marriage at Sea and read many others on this list! Safe travels & enjoy!
Thank you!!

The Pretender - Jo Harkin? I think I have a copy of this, but I haven't heard much about it!
Girl on Girl really resonated with me. I think it would be a very interesting listen, especially for anyone coming of age around the aughts.
And I love a too scared to continue reading situation! I'm definitely going to plan to pick Night Watcher up late summer/into fall!
I’m currently listening to Marriage at Sea and looking forward to Mailman.
I was also planning on doing the audio for Marriage at Sea. It sounds like a fascinating story!
