I read that NYT piece about special editions too, and at first was like UGH, but then remembered that I have at least 6 different editions of Little Women on my shelves - ha! I think many of us feel differently about this at a gut-level when it comes to classics, which I am having fun examining. Also, YES - scroll less!!! I have no social media apps on my phone anymore, including Substack - have also banned myself from looking at Substack on the browser on my phone. LAPTOP ONLY. And email - also gone (yet again) from my phone. Having to get my computer out and open it up is something I am much less inclined to do as a habit, and it definitely makes a different in my attention and hobbies.
You are truly living the dream 🙌 I have mixed feelings about special editions. I actually love special editions, when they're actually special and warranted. If we just flood the market with special editions, they aren't very special anymore now are they?! I fear making them more common will ruin the entire concept. On the other hand I love book and want the industry to survive, so if they're finding a way to move books and meet consumer demand then go for it. And on the other other hand... I dislike consumerism 😅 So, ya know, a lot to unpack here really.
I shared a post on my Instagram yesterday with all the challenges I plan to take part in. I think some thought it was overwhelming but for me I have a huge backlist in my house that I want to prioritize and need help navigating it and I think a few challenges is going to help me with it. Ohhh and I’m also fatigued by all the special editions and rereleases I’m seeing 😂 Happy New Year Stephanie!
Happy New Year! I did see all your challenges! I think we Reader readers can really benefit to have some structure/intention to our reading in a way that casual readers don't, and especially so when you're looking for motivation to pick up specific types of books. I'm not huge into reading challenges but I love to see what others are diving into!
good post
Happy new year 2025! Wow 275 congrats! Scrolling less is definitely key
It's so, so easy to lose time just mindlessly scrolling 🙈
