Welcome to my inaugural newsletter and thanks for closing out of whatever app you were scrolling to join me in this space.
I’m not exactly a resolution to start the new year kind of gal, and I certainly don’t embrace the “new year, new me” philosophy. To be honest, all I want to do in the depths of winter is hibernate, please see me in spring for any sort of rebirth.
But a fresh calendar year will find me thinking about the months ahead, what worked/didn’t for me last year, and what I’d like to bring into this fresh shiny new year.
One big thing I’d like to do this year is invest my time in creating content outside of social media, that is, in spaces which allow for longer form content, spaces which still breed community, but are free from the oppression of the Abominable Algorithm (trademark pending), which appears to feed exclusively on joy and fun while excreting ruin and despair for our consumption.
To achieve these plans to Keep the Community, Ditch the Algorithm, and Breed Joy! (trademark pending) I intend to create content for my dusty old blog and this here newsletter and see what happens. It often feels as though anything longer than a <15 second video is irrelevant in this modern era (I was recently exposed to the concept of the Millennial Pause vs. Gen Z shake, who else has heard of this? The entire argument causes me much distress, perhaps we can unpack it another day), but that’s not the type of content I prefer to create or consume. I’m betting on there being more people out there like me, those also disenchanted with the endless scroll and still willing to read thoughtfully crafted words on a page, er, screen.
I envision this newsletter as something of a weekly virtual coffee date with my closest web-based friends, and just like I do with my IRL friends over a beverage, I’ll be sharing happenings from my week: random thoughts and topics, links + loves, what I’m eating, reading, watching, and looking forward to.
Thanks for being here!
