Love your wrap ups Stephanie! So much goodness…I would pick London Falling for your road trip (my husband and I always pick an audiobook for road trips too…I have fun memories from those listening experiences)

I appreciate you reading! And I appreciate the suggestion! Our annual road trip listen is always a highlight of my reading year--love that you enjoy doing that too! I always try to make it a good selection. I find it challenging choosing books for other people 😬

Here are a few recent ones we’ve done (I’ve found they have to be non-fiction)…thrill of the chase (about a hidden treasure), a walk in the park (the summer we drove to the Grand Canyon) and marriage at sea!

Non-fiction tends to be safest here too. Marriage at Sea would be a good one, I read that on my own. I appreciate the suggestions! Is Thrill of the Chase the one about Forrest Fenn's treasure? I watched a documentary on that! Wild!

Yes- that’s the one! And we read that one while driving through New Mexico where much of the action takes place- it was a fun one!

Love that--what a perfect pairing!

Oh! I hadn't heard/seen that the Canadian Traitors had been posted to Peacock. So excited! I hope they get the others out there at some point ...

Stephanie | That Bookish Life's avatar

I’m going to need more Traitors—stat! I’m thinking there should be new seasons of US/UK this winter, maybe?

🤞 they've announced the cast for UK Celebrities so hopefully that means it will be shooting soon! At least I was able to start watching Canada last night, so thank you! I've heard NZ season 2 is terrific, so hoping Peacock eventually gets that one

I still haven’t read Pachinko and I don’t know why! I’m hoping to get to it this summer. I finished 2 galleys this week- Alan Opts Out and Lovers XXX. I wasn’t sure about either and they both ended up working well for me!

Stephanie | That Bookish Life's avatar

Oh, that's great to hear because both of those titles are on my TBR!

And Pachinko really is a must. I can't believe I avoided it for so long, and not for any real reason. I just have a tendency to do that sometimes. It's just under 500 pages in paperback and read very quickly for me because I just couldn't put it down. I think it would be an excellent story to enjoy as a summer read. Of course less because of content/setting, but more a story to become really engrossed in on a trip/long weekend, that sort of thing!

Have you read Homeseeking or Flashlight? Because I read and really enjoyed both of those. They definitely share throughlines with Pachinko.

So many of these are on my TBR! Doing a Toni Morrison reread sounds interesting - I haven't read most of her work since college and I wonder how I would read them differently now. Have you read Song of Solomon? That was always her standout to me.

Stephanie | That Bookish Life's avatar

Yes! But it's been a while. I read around half of her novels, most 20ish years ago, in my late teens/early 20s, and I'm finding it very interesting revisiting them further into adulthood. For the book club we've read A Mercy, Beloved, and Sula's meeting is Sunday. Plenty of titles left if you're interested in reading any in community!

Shelly's avatar

Oh you're doing it through a club? That's fun!

Stephanie | That Bookish Life's avatar

Yes! It's virtual and they offer a replay if you're unable to attend live. They also send out pre-reading resources. I'm enjoying it! https://ohiocelebratestonimorrison.org/event/toni-morrison-virtual-book-club/

Oh this is really cool!

I really enjoyed Go Gentle for an easy summer read. I read the new Jane Harper . I read The Academy by Elin and Shelby and lots of other I can’t remember the name of

Stephanie | That Bookish Life's avatar

Sounds like a good reading month! Go Gentle had a lot of interesting elements in the mix.

Hi Stephanie. I listened to London Falling. Generally, even though it's very sad, I'm glad I did. Although, I was left feeling frustrated by the ending.

Stephanie | That Bookish Life's avatar

Ooh, interesting! Have you read other Patrick Radden Keefe? I'm currently trying to choose an audiobook for my husband and I to enjoy together on a road trip and going back and forth between recommending Say Nothing or London Falling. We've read Empire of Pain. Any thoughts?

Mike's avatar

I haven't read/listened to his other books yet. I'm leaning toward Say Nothing next.

I haven’t heard of Mothers and Other Strangers but it sounds really good. I also loved Good People when I read it over the winter.

Dolly all the time sounds lovely, I've been seeing it everywhere. So glad you loved Pachinko, I'm a big fan and I love the tv show as well!
